How to start? Tentatively one might assume, but that's not really my style - so leaping with both feet! I think the teaching of English has changed so dramatically and continues to change at such a rapid rate that it becomes necessary to figure ways that make teaching and learning efficient, effective as well as educational! I love those moments when you actually see the results of teaching, when the glow of recognition about how meaning is made is reflected in your students' eyes. That's the stuff I want more of!
I hear people discussing how good it would be to return time when the three Rs were the deal. Frankly I shudder (if one can frankly shudder) at that sort of retrospective notion.
Rather than 3Rs I propose 4Ds:
DESIGN >> DELIVERY>>DISCOVERY>>DELIGHT!
Creating resources is a joy for me and I've discovered there are so many possibilities for student engagement using multimodal teaching resources.
I am happy to charge into the second decade of the 21st century armed with an arsenal of ways to develop skills in students who are critical analysers and brilliant multi-literate.
If you'd like any notes, or resources, that support the paper I'm happy to share them. Just drop me an email at jbain@oconnor.nsw.edu.au or jbain@une.edu.au and I'll happily send them off in electronic form.
Cheers,
Julie.
